| Making a Grand Connection |
 |
|
Hallways are the connectors of your home. They can
be terrific opportunities from a design standpoint and
fortunately, they can be very easy to decorate as
well because of the limited amount of space involved.
Consider these tips to make the most of your
hallways:
- A hall should be furnished. Furnishings give the
hall dimension, so it's not just a tunnel from one
place to another.
- Try to resist painting a hall white. Without natural
light, white paint can look dreary.
- Follow one small rule: paint hallway woodwork
the same shade of white you've used throughout the
house. The matching woodwork will create a subtle
continuity that pulls the house (or apartment)
together.
- A long hallway that dead-ends at a blank wall is
actually a design opportunity. Paint the wall a
fabulous color and create a tableau against it with
art or accessories.
- To make a narrow hall seem wider, bring the
ceiling color down to cover the top 12 inches of the
walls.
- Alternatively, use bright white ceiling paint or a
shade much lighter than the wall color to raise the
ceiling to give the illusion of height.

Calm Down the Kids! With back to school upon us,
this will help ease your child back into a routine. The
best colors to use in a child's room are light pastels
such as green, blue, beige, pink, peach, lavender,
cream and tan. To soothe an overly stimulated child,
add medium shades of blue. To motivate a quiet
child, add a few accents in bright colors such as
yellow, red and orange.
